Dann raises a good point... that if you are looking outside, then the outside controls your life. If you let God deal with all of the outside things you can't control (i.e. people!) and focus on how you could be amazing for someone, it is a good way to prepare for a real relationship (and probably find one, too). I know for myself I've wasted a lot of time looking for the right person when I could have spent it becoming the right person for someone else. Certainly, it's a more generous way to think.
